LASERS today are almost the in thing in every aspect related to beauty, but we need to understand that lasers are not magic and they need to be clearly understood by both the physician administering the laser as well as the client. Lasers have specific indications and there are over 25 different lasers for specific indications in cosmetic surgery practice. Some of the common indications are for hair removal, facial rejuvenation, birth marks, acne scar removal, correction of dark pigmentation, etc. What are the different lasers available to us? A lot of different companies market the lasers. in fact today the infamous “Chinese” tag has also been associated with lasers. A lot of Chinese products are the best in the world. But like products from every country, not everything is the best, nor it it the worst.

It is important for the clients to know details of the company of the laser and what type of laser is being used. For Hair reduction, some of the common lasers being used are ND YAG, Diode, IPL, and more recently SHR. All have their indications and limitations. Diode most closely matches the wavelength of the hair folicle pigment, melanin, but it is time taking and painful. ND YAG, tends to leave behind a lot of the finer hair. IPL is probably believed by a lot of plastic surgeons to be the most inferior of the lot.

SHR is a new Infra red Laser that is painless and works very fast. However long term analysis of the results is awaited. other lasers are PIXEL, which produces many microform spots on the skin, which leads to improvement in facila skin quality, and treatment of acne scars, and other old scars also. PIXEL also has a major role in facial rejuvenation with good results in terms of facial glow, facial tightening. LP NDYAG is good for pigmentation and birth marks, while QS NDYAG is good for tattoo removal. What is mandatory for us to know before we undergo lasers. There are certain contra-indications for the use of lasers.

It is important to know all the effects and problems associated. Please discuss these with your doctor. Also ask about the number of sittings an the total cost of the procedure. Often packages are offered, which work out cheaper in the long term. please note – the above views are that of the author, and this article cannot be used for reference or for medico-legal purposes.

Loose hanging skin in the region of the abdomen is very resistant to any kind of exercise. It is very distressing for the person, because it prevents wearing of proper clothes, and is visible as a hanging flab of tissue. This is particularly more common in post pregnant women, where the expanded abdominal skin fails to retract back to its normal contour. This is however less common in men.

The surgical procedure done in this condition is known as a tummy tuck or an “abdominoplasty”. A tummy tuck involves removal of the excess hanging skin along with the underlying fat to give a flat and toned abdomen. This procedure tightens the abdominal muscles and gives a new and rejuvenated abdomen. The position of the umbilicus is also shifted to a more natural position.

The scar

Patients are worried about the scar of the tummy tuck. It is reassuring to know that the scar can be placed according to the type of clothing that the patient prefers to wear, and it is not visible from under the clothing. Thus, if the patient wants to wear a particular type of bikini, we can site the scar accordingly. The scar can be shaped according to the type of jeans or dresses, which the patient may prefer. The scar is fine and tends to mature a lot over time.

How is tummy tuck done?

Tummy tucks are done under general anesthesia. Marking for the incision and determination of the amount of tissue to be removed are done in the preoperative period. After the necessary amount of skin and fat has been removed, the muscles are tightened. It is also possible to produce a shaping of the sides of the abdomen by tightening the muscles there.

What is mini tummy tuck?

In a condition where there is not that much of lax skin and the position of the umbilicus is not too low, the surgery can be made less extensive, and limited amount of skin can be removed for a better shape of the abdomen. It is also possible to tighten the muscles endoscopically.

Post operative period

The patient needs to have restricted physical activity for about 3 weeks after surgery. Gradual walking and light exercises should be done. Sexual activity must be avoided for 3 weeks. Child birth is to be avoided for a period of 2 years. We counsel the patient to undergo a tummy tuck only once she has completed the family.

Why tummy tuck and not liposuction?

The loose hanging skin does not retract well, as there is damage to the elastin fibres due to stretching. Liposuction can only remove fat, and does nothing to the skin. Thus in the event of excess skin, it is practical to consider a tummy tuck. Liposuction is combined to shape the upper part of the tummy and to give a “younger” look.

Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgery used to reshape the external ear. Otoplasty candidates opt for the surgery in the attempt to correct many different ear abnormalities including ears that flare out from the skull, over sized, asymmetrical, deformed or damaged ears, as well as microtic and absent organs. Otoplasty does not alter a person’s ability to hear; it is primarily preformed because the patient is dissatisfied with the appearance of their ears.

Ear reshaping surgery is often preformed because these organs tend to flare out from the head. This is due to an enlarged concha bowl which causes the organ to be overly prominent. This surgery is often referred to as ear pinning because following the surgery they appear to have been pinned back to the head. In reality, the surgeon makes an incision behind the organ and removes a small wedge of cartilage from the concha. The result is less prominent ears.

When someone feels they have over sized ears it is usually because they lack appropriate folding along the antihelix (the outer rim of the ear). The surgeon is able to reshape the antihelix by making precise and predetermined scratches on the front surface of the organ. These scratches weaken the cartilage allowing the surgeon to fold and reshape it appropriately through an incision made in the back.

This method generally does not require permanent sutures. In some cases of over sized ears, surgeons will remove cartilage. This is mostly done through an incision behind the organ but sometimes it may be necessary for the surgeon to make incision on the front surface. When this is necessary, the surgeon will make the cuts within the folds so that scars will be hidden and appear minimal.

In the case of damaged organs or those that have been deformed or absent from birth, a combination of these methods may be used. Building up of the cartilage may also be necessary. This is done by removing material from another area of the body and incorporating it into the new organ. Small pieces used in ear shaping surgery are most commonly taken from the ribs or the other ear.

These types of otoplasty are extensive and only be preformed by qualified and experienced plastic surgeons, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, or ENT’s. The results generally favorable, but perfection should not be expected. It is very difficult to reshape a highly deformed or damaged ear, and even more difficult to create a new one and have it look natural and normal. But the results are generally preferred to the preexisting condition.

When trying to correct uneven or unbalanced ears, otoplasty can be effective. But is important to remember that slight asymmetry is normal and that perfection should not be expected from surgery. Rarely are both ears seen at the same time and so otoplasty should only be performed when the imbalance is severe.

Otoplasty is generally preformed on children ages 5-14. Most ears are fully grown by age five. Adults may have the surgery done with minimal risks, however optimal results are achieved when the patient is young and the cartilage is still extremely pliable. Another benefit of having the procedure at a young age is that children may avoid more of the teasing and name calling that often accompany prominent or deformed ears.

In considering breast augmentation surgery, many women wonder about the consequences on pregnancy and breastfeeding. They want to know if having implants is safe for breastfeeding and whether they will hamper the process at all.

How It Works

Breast augmentation surgery can be performed in several different specific ways, but one of the most common methods is for the plastic surgeon to make an incision in the crease between the breast and the abdomen. The implants are then gently inserted into the desired position.

If they are silicone implants, they will go in at their complete size, requiring slightly larger incisions, while saline-filled devices can be inserted while deflated and can be filled with the fluid after they are well-positioned within the pocket. The incisions are then closed up and the anesthesia is allowed to wear off.

If you are planning to get pregnant and breastfeed after getting implants, you should definitely talk with your cosmetic surgeon about your desires as the exact placement of the incisions and implants can have an effect on your ability to breastfeed.

For example, a peri-areolar incision, or one that is made around the areola can cause a disconnection between the milk ducts and the nipples. Incisions made under the bust or through the under arm are much less likely to create milk duct disruptions.

Additionally, some women have found that procedures that placed their implants under the pectoral muscles can also affect the natural flow of breast milk by displacing the ducts. This is not the case 100 percent of the time, but you should know that it is more likely to happen with sub-pectoral placement than with those placed over the muscles.

A Study on Breast Implants and Safety

Back in 1998, a group of researchers conducted a study to check out a theory posed by a 1994 Danish study that believed there to be a link between esophageal disease and connective tissue disorders in children and mothers with silicone devices who breastfed. The new study looked at thousands of Danish mothers, some who had undergone silicone implant surgery prior to breastfeeding and some who had had breast reduction surgery performed.

Basically, the study found no risk of these disorders and diseases as a result of breastfeeding from mothers with silicone implants. The researchers decided that breastfeeding with silicone implants, and with implants in general is not a cause of esophageal or connective tissue disorders. In fact, more recent studies have revealed that silicone molecules are too large to pass into to the milk ducts, making it impossible for the material to contaminate the milk supply or affect the baby.

If you are considering breast augmentation surgery, you can rest assured that breastfeeding after your surgery will be safe. There is always the risk, however, that you may not be able to breastfeed after the surgery, even if all the proper precautions are taken. You must carefully weigh this possibility with your desire for a fuller chest before making the decision that is right for you.

Surgeons who perform breast augmentation in St Louis will consider such factors as the size and shape of your breasts, the quality of your skin and the placement of your nipples and areolas to achieve the most aesthetic outcome.

Plastic surgery is becoming more and more common. There are a dozen television shows devoted to people getting plastic surgery. There are people getting plastic surgery to look younger, plastic surgery to look better, or plastic surgery to look like their favorite movie star. But plastic surgery is serious business, and this overview can help you decide If it is right for you.

The most popular plastic surgery is liposuction. This is a surgery that removes fat from beneath the skin using a large vacuum. A small cut is made into the skin of the fatty area. A thin tube attached to a vacuum is then placed under the skin. Fluid is often pumped into the skin to deaden nerves and make the fat easier to remove. Vaccuum liposuction isn’t the only option though. There is also ultrasound liposuction that does not require any incisions. That makes recovery much easier and does not leave any scars like the vacuum procedure.

Rhinoplasty – often referred to as a “nose job” – is also common. The nose job reshapes the nose by removing or reshaping the cartilage within the nose itself. Most common reasons for nose jobs are size reduction and bump removal. This is common for people whose noses have become crooked due to breaks or have deviated septums.

The breast enhancement may be the most famous of all plastic surgery. It is extremely popular – especially among young women. The surgery takes a saline implant that is shaped like a breast and places it beneath the skin of the breast. This surgery is usually performed to increase breast size. However, it is also commonly used for breast cancer survivors or to even out differently-sized breasts. Many women who have especially large natural breasts may choose to get a reduction surgery to lessen the overall size and reduced problems with back pain or ill-fitting clothes.

There are many, many alternatives to the traditional facelift these days. One of these great options is the endoscopic facelift method. It allows patients with minor facial sagging and drooping to correct the problems without the invasive incisions and cutting of the traditional technique.

How It Works

Endoscopic basically refers to being able to look inside the face, under the skin with the help of tiny instruments. In fact, after the plastic surgeon makes just a few small cuts in appropriate, inconspicuous areas (usually in the hairline, behind the ears on the sides of the nose, or under the jaw line), she will insert a microscopic instrument that has a little camera attached to the end.

The camera send images to a video monitor that the surgeon uses to perform the necessary reshaping and tightening, all without have to lift up the skin and look at it directly. The doctor then removes fatty tissue, reshapes the muscles, and repositions other tissue. He can even insert cheek implants if desired during the procedure.

The Benefits

Compared with traditional surgical facelift techniques, the endoscopic method provides many advantages. For one, there is no skin cutting and removal. With a traditional lift, the skin is actually stretched up and pulled tight and the excess skin is cut off.

This is understandable a traumatic event for the face, requiring longer recovery times and causing greater pain. In fact, the down time for an endoscopic surgery is usually just a one or two days compared with a week or more with a traditional facelift.

Another benefit is that because the endoscopic method is so minimally invasive, the face remains sensitive to touch, as well as hot and cold, whereas the traditional technique often leaves the face without sensation for quite a while after the surgery is performed. Similarly, the endoscopic facelift involves less risk than the traditional surgery as it uses smaller incisions and keeps the patient under anesthesia for a shorter period of time.

Endoscopic facelift patients also enjoy the advantage of paying less for their appearance enhancing procedure. This is because the endoscopic version requires less time and less anesthesia, meaning patients save on drug and doctor time costs.

The Recovery

There is minimal bleeding and swelling after the facelift procedure because the incisions are all less than an inch long. The endoscopic technique is much less traumatic to the face than the traditional lift and means that the recovery is quicker. There will still be some bruising, swelling, and pain though. The cosmetic surgeon can prescribe pain medication to ease the healing process and the swelling will subside over a period of a week or more.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Most ideal candidates for this surgery are in the age range of their thirties to fifties with minor facial drooping, sagging, or wrinkling. Endoscopic facelift surgeries is most effective at correcting issues with sagging cheeks, smile lines, jowls, frown lines, and crow’s feet. Good candidates will also have realistic expectations about the surgical results. It is important to have a clear picture of the benefits and limitations of the procedure before undergoing surgery.

Laser liposuction, otherwise known as laser lipolysis, laser-assisted lipolysis or Smartlipo, is a new method of liposuction using laser technology. In traditional liposuction, significant force to disrupt the tissue that holds the fat together is needed to free it up. Almost everyone has seen on TV or videos of how the procedure is performed and few would doubt that the traditional approach is fairly traumatic. Effective, but traumatic. With Smartlipo, the required mechanical force is reduced by the heating or melting of the fat.

Fat is a unique tissue in that it is really globs of lipid (triglycerides) surrounded and encased in strands of connective tissue. To no surprise, fat has a fair amount of water in it which is very relevant in laser liposuction but largely unimportant in traditional liposuction. Fat is roughly 25% water. Running through the fat are small blood vessels and lymphatic channels. Some fat areas have globules that are quite big (‘buttery fat”) and other fat areas have smaller globules with a lot of connective tissue. (‘gritty fat’) Gritty fat, such as in the upper abdomen or back, takes a lot more force to break it up and be suctioned out.

The laser energy delivered to the fat via fiberoptic cables or probes is designed to raise the temperature of the lipids to above 42 degrees C. At this temperature, the fat cells are damaged and they release their lipids. (lipid liberation!) This liquid is easier to suction out that clumps of fat. The heat generated next to the tip of the cables causes coagulation of any blood vessels and lymphatic channels. A secondary benefit of this heat is its effect on the strands of connective tissue and the overlying skin. This coagulation of collagen tissue causes a beneficial shrinkage of tissue and, to some degree, the overlying skin.

There is currently much debate as to the ‘ideal’ laser wavelength for which to use to create this fat melting effect. Most of laser technology is based on matching the wavelength to the chromophobe (color) of the target tissue. Fat is a weak target because its yellow color, being lighter, is not a great absorber of wavelength energy. (same problem with the yellow and lighter colors in tattoo removal) Some manufacturers use 1064nm while others use 924nm which is theoretically more specific for lipid absorption. Both cause substantial heat generation and the general effect of heat transmission to the fat cell is probably achieved equally by both. Dual laser wavelengths today have become the new standard in an effort to target the water in the dermis (skin) as well. These include wavelengths such as 975 and 1320nms.

The sophistication of laser-assisted lipolysis is rapidly expanding. Dual wavelength energy delivery, monitoring internal temperature levels, and greater surgical finesse is rapidly changing the way liposuction is being performed. Better results and less recovery appear to be more than just marketing hype with this new laser-assisted liposuction technology.

The mid-face lift is a new procedure that helps those that are bothered by sagging cheeks and the deep creases that develop between the cheek and upper lip as a result. In the past, if someone wanted to remove that crease, the stretch required in a facelift would leave the face looking overstretched. For this reason, collagen was often used to fix the cheek crease. The mid-face lift allows for this problem to be resolved without the face looking overstretched.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

The cheek fat pads are elevated by sutures, providing the appearance of higher cheekbones and smoother creases between the cheek and the mouth. Four small incisions are used to accomplish these results. Two of the incisions are in the scalp above each ear and each is less than one inch in length. These incisions are well hidden in the hair. The last two are about 1/8th inch in length and are near the crease on each side of the mouth. This procedure allows you to remain consciousness under an anesthesia called conscious sedation or “twilight” anesthesia.

How Long is the Recovery Time?

This procedure has a short recovery time. It has been called the “72 hour facelift” as some people can resume their daily functions within 3 days. However, most people would want to take a week off from work or from regular activities.

Comparison to the Alternatives

The mid-face lift allows you to target a specific area of your face so less is affected than a full face lift. This means that a mid-face lift will be less traumatic than a full face lift, as well as take less time to recover.

The mid-face lift is definitely a more serious procedure than injections to remove facial creases. However, injections are not permanent and are required periodically to retain the results that you enjoy from them. The mid-face lift allows you to remove the creases more permanently, with less trauma and recovery time than a full face lift.

If you are looking for a more permanent solution without that the serious down-time of the facelift, a mid-face lift might be the perfect solution for you.

Breast augmentation is a readily available, medically advanced procedure that has benefited countless women across the globe – both physically and psychologically. However, the procedure itself is relatively new, with many women unaware of just how far it has come since its initial days of practice.

Implants have been used since at least 1895 to enhance the size of a woman’s breasts, as well as to augment the shape. The earliest known breast implant was attempted by Vincenz Czerny, using a woman’s own adipose – or loose connective – tissue. During the procedure, Czerny surgically transferred a benign growth from a woman’s back into her breast, in order to avoid asymmetry after removing a tumor from that same breast.

Previous to this procedure, however, medical records show that paraffin injections were given in 1889, in an attempt to augment breast size or shape – with disastrous results. During the early to mid 1900s, a number of other substances were implanted or injected for the same purpose, including glass balls, ivory, ox cartilage, wool, rubber and other materials.

In recent history – throughout the 1950s and 1960s – silicone injections were given to approximately 50,000 women. However, such treatment has resulted in a number of women developing silicone granulomas and hardening of the breasts. Even today, some women are having to undergo treatment due to the adverse effects of silicone injections given to them decades ago. In most severe cases, a mastectomy is required.

Silicon filled implants were finally introduced in 1961 in the US, though they went through a number of drastic changes over the following two decades. For instance, silicon shells were prone to hardening when they were first released on the market, so polyurethane shells were introduced instead. In 1988, the FDA declared a stop on silicon implants for cosmetic purposes, though they have once again become an option in recent years.

The procedure has undoubtedly advanced on a significant scale in recent years. Women can now seek breast enlargement procedures with solid assurance that they can achieve the breast size, shape, and contour they’ve always wanted – not to mention a heightened sense of self confidence.

Breast implants come in a variety of shapes and sizes, enabling every woman to have the breasts she’s most comfortable with. A qualified surgeon can advise you on which type, size and shape of implants are most suitable for you, as well as discuss any questions or concerns you might have regarding the procedure, what type of results you can expect, or the recovery process. Therefore, it is always in your best interests to speak to a surgeon if you’re considering the life-changing procedure of breast enlargement.

People are what they are because of their genetics and bust is no exception so there are women with nice breasts and others not. There are various ways to achieve bust enhancement and one is cosmetic surgery: we have talked before about genetic and is the basis so if you don’t have a good genetic you can’t dream about having the best bust in the world but as said you have ways to improve it. Natural ways to enchance your bust are effective and can bring and satisfying results but will be just improvements and not a new totally thing: are you satisfied with the results that you have achieved through natural systems ? Did you prove them before asking yourself if choosing a cosmetic surgery treatment or not ? If you are moving the first steps in having a better bust then you should attempt the natural methods, if you are not satisfied with what you achieved with them then you can think to a possible cosmetic surgery treatment.

Cosmetic surgery has its pro and cons, it will be able to give you the desired shapes but it’s expensive, has risks and it’s not for a lifetime since implants have to be replaced after a certain number of years. Cosmetic surgery has its costs and can vary from country to country but at the moment are about from 2000$ to 7000$, to undergo a cosmetic surgery treatment you must be healthy and a non-smoking person. We have two kinds of breast implants that can be based on a silicone or a saline structure: which one is better ? Both have their advantages and disadvantages, saline implants are made of salt water that can be absorbed if a rupture occurrs but at the same time can show ripples while the silicone implants look better but if a rupture occurrs can be hardly detected and pieces of them can be dispersed in the surrounding areas. Anyway it’s not the one is better than the other, they are different and so are addressed to different situations, this test can help you to see which is better for you.

Bust Enhancement can be achieved also with a breast lift: a breast lift is a kind of surgery that can be performed with or without the insertion of breast implants through three incisions that have the goal to move the nipple upward. When you think about breast surgery treatment you can think also about the phases of the treatment that include the local or general anesthesia and the post-operative recovery time: it’s a surgical operation like others and so you know what to expect as a little scar, some aching and a partial inactivity that can last one or two weeks. A possible side-effect can be the lose of breast sensitivity as some nerve connections can be damaged though care and attention will be paid to preserve them. You can have also complications though they are rare and are infections, bottoming out, symmastia and capsular contraction. It’s very important to avoid bad surprises to choose a board-certified surgeon.

Surgery is surgery and so you must use caution and use it only as a last resort, ask yourself for which reasons are you looking for it ? For some models is a must to have a perfect bust but for normal women can be avoided since there are other ways to improve breast’s appearance.
