Dangers of Breast Implants

Published: Jul 8th, 2009 | Author: Alex Bhaswara Add Comment

In the last decade, breast implants have soared in popularity. However, there are risks involved. While we know the short term risks, long term conclusive studies have not been able to be conducted.

Typical surgical risks apply to the procedure such as infection. Additionally, chronic breast pain can occur. There may be changes in sensitivity and skin death. Studies have shown that more than half of patients with saline and silicone breast implants have had a complication within the first three years. The complications can be pain, hardening, infection, and need for additional surgery amongst other things.

Women who have had breast reconstruction have often had to undergo surgery a second time within the first three years. 46% of women with silicone gel implants and 21% with saline implants went had a re-operation. 6% of silicone patients and 16% of saline patients suffered from breast pain. 25% of silicone patients and 8% of saline patients ended up having the implants removed altogether.

Breast Augmentation – Go Scarless No With Endoscopic Assistance

No procedure in plastic surgery has been the subject of greater scrutiny and controversy, both scientific and political, than breast augmentation. After banning silicone breast implants in 1992, the government urged plastic surgeons to produce studies validating both the safety and patient satisfaction with breast implants.

In response, one study of 112 women demonstrated improved self-image, decreased self-consciousness, and heightened self confidence. Overall satisfaction rates approached 86% (Mathes and Nahai- Textbook of Plastic Surgery)

Surgical Incisions and Procedure

Four separate incisional sites-inframammary, periareolar, axillary, and transumbilical-have been used for placement of breast prostheses.

Breast Reduction – What Every Women Needs to Know

Large breasts were at one time considered extremely aesthetic and very sociable, but in today’s world it is often a source of embarrassment. It also brings with it the problems of ill-fitting clothes, inability to wear modern, designer kind of hip clothing as well as the problem of back pain, bra strap marks on the shoulder, sweating and fungal infection below the breast line, and a general decreased self esteem.

Large breasts may be from teenage itself or more commonly after childbirth and lactation. The major complaint women have after childbirth and feeding is that the breast have now sagged down, and started to look very bad. The only treatment for these problems is surgical reduction known as reduction mammoplasty or breast reduction. No other non surgical procedure is successful, may it be use of ultrasound technology or radio frequency based devices. It should be understood, that there is an absolute increase of breast tissue as well as skin, which needs to tackled, and surgery is the only option

Procedure

Breast reduction involves an actual removal of excess breast tissue as well as skin, and shaping the breast to a more aesthetic and shapely figure as per the pre-operative discussions with the patient. Commonly this involves two types of procedures. One is a wise pattern with inverted ‘T’ scar pattern; the other is vertical short scar pattern. The latter technique is now well established, has a smaller scar, but takes significantly more time to give the final breast shape.

Breast Augmentation – Can Implants Affect Your Ability to Breastfeed?

Published: Apr 9th, 2009 | Author: Alex Bhaswara Add Comment

In considering breast augmentation surgery, many women wonder about the consequences on pregnancy and breastfeeding. They want to know if having implants is safe for breastfeeding and whether they will hamper the process at all.

How It Works

Breast augmentation surgery can be performed in several different specific ways, but one of the most common methods is for the plastic surgeon to make an incision in the crease between the breast and the abdomen. The implants are then gently inserted into the desired position.

If they are silicone implants, they will go in at their complete size, requiring slightly larger incisions, while saline-filled devices can be inserted while deflated and can be filled with the fluid after they are well-positioned within the pocket. The incisions are then closed up and the anesthesia is allowed to wear off.

Breast Enlargement – How Far Has it Come?

Published: Apr 7th, 2009 | Author: Alex Bhaswara Add Comment

Breast augmentation is a readily available, medically advanced procedure that has benefited countless women across the globe – both physically and psychologically. However, the procedure itself is relatively new, with many women unaware of just how far it has come since its initial days of practice.

Implants have been used since at least 1895 to enhance the size of a woman’s breasts, as well as to augment the shape. The earliest known breast implant was attempted by Vincenz Czerny, using a woman’s own adipose – or loose connective – tissue. During the procedure, Czerny surgically transferred a benign growth from a woman’s back into her breast, in order to avoid asymmetry after removing a tumor from that same breast.

Previous to this procedure, however, medical records show that paraffin injections were given in 1889, in an attempt to augment breast size or shape – with disastrous results. During the early to mid 1900s, a number of other substances were implanted or injected for the same purpose, including glass balls, ivory, ox cartilage, wool, rubber and other materials.

Natural ways to enchance your bust are effective and can bring and satisfying results but will be just improvements and not a new totally thing: are you satisfied with the results that you have achieved through natural systems ? Did you prove them before asking yourself if choosing a cosmetic surgery treatment or not ? If you are moving the first steps in having a better bust then you should attempt the natural methods, if you are not satisfied with what you achieved with them then you can think to a possible cosmetic surgery treatment.

Cosmetic surgery has its pro and cons, it will be able to give you the desired shapes but it’s expensive, has risks and it’s not for a lifetime since implants have to be replaced after a certain number of years. Cosmetic surgery has its costs and can vary from country to country but at the moment are about from 2000$ to 7000$, to undergo a cosmetic surgery treatment you must be healthy and a non-smoking person. We have two kinds of breast implants that can be based on a silicone or a saline structure: which one is better ? Both have their advantages and disadvantages, saline implants are made of salt water that can be absorbed if a rupture occurrs but at the same time can show ripples while the silicone implants look better but if a rupture occurrs can be hardly detected and pieces of them can be dispersed in the surrounding areas. Anyway it’s not the one is better than the other, they are different and so are addressed to different situations, this test can help you to see which is better for you.

Breast Implant Sizes: Big, Bigger, Biggest

Breast augmentation sizing is a challenge for the doctor
as well as the patient. Breast implant sizes affect each woman’s body differently. It is difficult for the doctor to predict precisely whether a 350cc breast implant size will make you a C cup, for example, until they get into the surgery. A 350cc on you may very well look different than on your friend.

Another challenge has to do with a patient’s reference to cup size. Women will often say, “I want to be a D cup”, or “Make me a C cup”. Many doctors will actually refuse to discuss cup size since there are many factors which cup size does not describe. Even more importantly, cup size is not standardized by the bra industry. One manufacturer’s B cup, might be a another manufacturer’s C cup. That makes it difficult for a doctor to say precisely what cup size you will be.

Breast Implant Sizing: How Will You Feel About Your New Breast Size?

Ask a woman how she feels about breast augmentation after the procedure was done. Studies show that by far most women who have had the procedure done are glad they have done it. If they have a complaint it is usually related to their choice of breast implant size. In fact, the leading cause of subsequent surgeries is really just to change the size of the breast implant. Why is this happening?

Let’s take a moment and examine how most patients are choosing their breast implant size. In most cases, patients are basing their choice of breast implant size on how various breast implant sizers look on other women’s bodies. They are encouraged to look at before and after photos and decide what breast size is right for them. In other cases, women are encouraged to cut out pictures of models with breast sizes they imagine will be right for themselves. Unfortunately, different breast implant sizes look different on each woman’s body. This system is just not working well.

History Of Breast Implants

Published: Mar 2nd, 2009 | Author: Alex Bhaswara Add Comment

The first documented attempt to augment (enlarge) the breast happened 119 years ago. For the first 68 years, breast augmentation was attempted by direct injection with materials, including paraffin, fat, and free silicone. These attempts led to disastrous consequences including infection, hard breast lumps, deformity, fat absorption, fat necrosis, and chronic inflammatory reactions. Removal was difficult, sometimes leading to measures as drastic as mastectomy. After the invention of the mammogram, these injections were found to create artifacts that made cancer screening more difficult. For these reasons, direct injections of the breast were abandoned by most plastic surgeons in the US. Free silicone injections into the breast for augmentation still continued in many other countries into the latter part of the 20th century, however.

Commercially made breast implants were first available in the US in 1958, and over 200 different implant types and designs have been made since then. Experts estimate that 60% of these were silicone gel filled implants with the exception of 1992-2006, when the FDA moratorium was in place. During this time, saline filled implants dominated the market. Dow Corning dominated the implant market for the first 30 years, but over 15 other companies made breast implants during the 1980s. Although Congress gave the FDA authority to regulate medical devices in 1976, breast implants had been “grandfathered in”, and few of the products underwent rigorous testing in clinical trials prior to sale on the open market.
